I have applied to a few competitive residency programs through ERAS. One of the programs - happens to be my second choice and would love to go there, contacted me and told me to do an audition rotation. My question, does this mean they have most likely looked though my application and they think I have a shot - I know this is a highly hypothetical question BUT I am wondering for those programs that require audition rotation, is it most likely that they would ask people to do a rotation if the credentials are acceptable OR is it standard requirement before really opening and looking through the application? I have to decide because I also have a couple of interviews in that time frame and Beginning of December is a busy interviewing time and locking myself may be a higher risk? I am just not unfamiliar with how audition rotations are offered if initiated by schools. Appreciate people's input even if based on a single experience or from a resident/ attending's view.

No idea. What program is it? I know there are a few DO programs that absolutely require an audition; no idea of this exists in the MD world, but it seems that auditions are much lower weight on the ACGME side.

In any case, if you really like them, then it's in your best interest to audition there anyway, especially if they're suggesting it. They know it's interview season, they'll work with you.
