August MCAT / Loyola Secondary

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got mine the day after I recieved the scores.

Good luck.

Yep, I got mine in the mail last week (Thursday I think). I still haven't gotten my NW secondary in the mail even though I have been able to access it since last Monday.

What were the essay questions on the secondary? Is there anything else I can do to prepare my secondary while I wait for AMCAS to process my application?

Let me see if I can remember....

Be able to talk about "why medicine" "why Loyola" and things of that nature. There were about 4-5 short essays as I recall...pretty general stuff about what has influenced you and so forth.

It seemed moderately hard, but I wouldn't stress it. Also, Loyola does screen pre-secondary....so if you don't get one right way they may still be reviewing your app.

Like I said, GOOD LUCK!

PS For your LORs, either have a pre-med committee letter or your advisor's letter plus two science, one non-science faculty.

So, either one or four.

Thanks, Chameleon. I can go ahead and start writing the essays if I know specidically what the questions are. I feel screwed already in that the schools haven't even received my primary app. from AMCAS. I need to get those secondaries in as soon as the secondary reaches my mailbox!! Aaaargh!!

I got my Loyola secondary last Friday and the questions are not that bad.
They are:

1. What do you consider a valuable experience in your personal development? This might be a decision you have made, an achievement of which you are particularly proud, or a person who has influenced your life. (25 lines)

2. Describe briefly how you have dealt with a personal or academic problem you have encountered. (25 lines)

3. How did you reach your decision to enter medicine? Describe your participation in any health care or other activities which reinforced your decision. (25 lines)

4. What self-education, research, or independent scholastic work have you undertaken and what do you feel you have accomplished in this work? (25 lines)

5. If you will not be enrolled as a full-time student during the current academic year, please explain what you will be doing prior to your planned matriculation into medical school. (25 lines)

6. Please use this space to bring the information contained on your AMCAS application up-to-date. Indicate grades earned, alterations in your proposed course work or graduation date, address changes, additions to your list of activities, and anything else you feel we should know. (25 lines)

Loyola does not "really" screen, only for very, very basic requirements. However, I think one factor may be if you have community service on your app. They try to group applicants according to due dates and look over each one after the initial screen which is why they take so long. I see this as a good thing because it means they take the time to look over each app individually, but others may see it as a frustrating wait. Don't worry it will come soon.

Perfect...thanks, toomuch! Best of luck

I wasn't aware that Loyola screened. I got a secondary so I kind of doubt that they do.

I also took the August MCAT - Did fairly well, I guess, but nothing out of the ordinary.
