The overall mean was higher than ever. I wonder if it's a typo. 25.5 seems...odd. April's average is a 24.8 but the mean of combined of April and August is 24.7...does this seem odd to anyone especially when considering that August had many more test takers than April?

It looks like hardly anyone got 15s on Verbal and there were sizeable percentages on the low end...a testament to how difficult that section was this past august.

This seems odd. The sum of the section means for August (8.1 + 8.1 + 8.5) is 24.7 -- NOT 25.5. Assuming the same number of people completed each section, I don't think it is possible for the overall mean to differ from the sum of the section means. Or am I losing it?

No, that's not true. The sum of the means of each section can, and most likely will be, different from the combined mean.

Show me.

Remember I am assuming the same number of people completed each section.

Okay, I take it back. You're right. Actually thought it through on paper this time.
