Hello everyone,

Augusta University Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is currently looking to fill one final non-categorical intern spot for the 2018-2019 year.

Augusta OMS (Formerly MCG / GRU), is a 4 year (48 month) OMS program located in Augusta, Georgia. The program is associated with the Dental College of Georgia, the only dental school in the state. We accept two residents per year, and have a total of 8 residents and 2 non-categorical interns. We have four full time faculty as well as several part time faculty.

Basic overview of the program:
+ Balanced, traditional scope.
+ Abundance of dentoalveolar and ambulatory IV Sedations in OMS clinic
+ Good implant numbers due to dental school setting
+ Benign pathology (no cancer), full scope TMJ surgery on a routine basis, orthognathic surgery and routine collaboration with in-house Orthodontics residents.
+ New program director, Jeffrey James DDS MD FACS, is cleft/craniofacial fellowship trained, and is capable of full scope facial cosmetics as well. These two aspects of the program will grow in the coming years.
+ Hospital associations include Augusta University Medical Center (Level 1), Children's Hospital of Georgia, VA Downtown Augusta, and Augusta State Medical Prison (a plethora of face trauma cases).
+ Face trauma call at AU+CHOG is shared 15 days on and 15 days off with ENT. There is no plastic surgery residency or fellowship. Face trauma at the prison does not require coming in overnight.
+ Favorable history of accepting our own non-categorical interns with proven performance

Intern roles:
+ Non-categorical interns are treated in the same manner and respect as PGY-1 residents
+ Interns are on service for 11 months of the year, with an optional one month rotation in Pathology.
+ Daily team role for the intern includes OMS clinic (no hard limits on intern scope in clinic. The intern routinely performs full scope dentoalveolar and IV Sedations as the primary operator.), Augusta State Medical Prison dental clinic (multiple complex exodontia cases), and occasional off-site private practice rotations.
+ Typical call schedule for an intern is q3-4 days, usually shared with another intern or PGY-1 or PGY-2.

Any interested parties, please e-mail a letter of interest with an attached resume to:

Thanks guys.
