Outside of UTMB students from the class of 2007 and earlier, a lot of people might not know this.
UTMB has NOT yet taken over the program in Austin. Psych and Surgery are still on the old-school system. Dr. Wolf mentions this on your interview day, but more to the point, I just want to make sure everyone knows what's going on. Dr. Callender (the new UTMB pres) is not interested in setting up anything new for UTMB in Austin. Basically the programs that have been converted to UTMB are going to be taken over by another school (probably UTSW at this point). This might not affect you in residency as Texas politics can move at a snail's pace.
This story came out this past weekend.
As Dr. Wolf said, it probably won't mean much in terms of day-to-day operations, but just something to keep in mind as you are preparing your rank order list.
