Ok, so I hate when less informed people make up things but this guy is insisting that this is true:
He claims that if you attend University of Buffalo for undergrad and graduate with a 3.9 GPA, then you are guaranteed acceptance to their medical school.

Has anyone heard of such a thing. Buffalonians 🙂 feel free to chime in.

Thanks!

Guaranteed? No. However it's extremely likely.

I'm sure it helps...but the only "guaranteed" programs I am aware of are their 3-2 dental ones.

It may be that your friend is in some stype of BS/MD program in which he is required to maintain a 3.9+? However, that seems rather high for BS/MD...so I really have no clue.

Edit: I have no affiliation with Buffalo, so I can't answer with anything more than speculation.

Not from Buffalo, but they do have this provisional acceptance program. He might be referring to that.

As far as I know, this is not true. One of my friends graduated with a 4.0 from UB and didn't get accepted. Granted, I don't know exactly what her MCAT score was but I know it wasn't terrible and I DEFINITELY know that she, or one of my other friends would have mentioned this to me if if were true.

If I get a chance, I'll ask one of them about this. But I'm pretty sure this guy is making stuff up. I know my undergrad institution, which is has it's own med school, tells all the incoming pre-meds and prospective students that they'll have a better chance of getting in if they attend as undergrads. But they include the numbers from their 8 year BS/MD program in there as well so really it's just a big fat marketing lie and you're pretty much no better off than someone who just went to a different school.

Thanks guys.

He was saying that it's an auto acceptance without any BS/MD program which I thought was pretty ridiculous.

There's probably an early assurance program in which you can apply in sophomore year and not have to take the mcat, but I've never heard of an auto acceptance. There's always an interview as far as I know.

This was 5 years ago, but someone I knew with a 39 MCAT and a high GPA from Stanford told me about a program at UMichigan where people with certain stats from certain schools get guaranteed admission. I don't know if there's any merit to this, but I saw her tell her professor about this program... it could be rumor, or it could have basis in reality.

It seems like there are at least some programs like this out there:

http://www.rmc.edu/Academics/PreMed/Guaranteed-Medical-School-Admission.aspx
The Early Selection Program encourages talented and committed second-year Randolph-Macon students who have achieved academic distinction to pursue a variety of undergraduate majors and gain a provisional acceptance to the medical school at George Washington. In addition, for students following this path, the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) will be waived.

http://www.mssm.edu/education/medical-education/programs/scimed/

The program assures highly motivated undergraduates provisional admission to Mount Sinai School of Medicine upon successful completion of program requirements and graduation from their undergraduate institution.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Sophomores in good academic standing
SAT scores greater than or equal to 700 in every section
College GPA greater than or equal to 3.6
Evidence of a longstanding commitment to scientific research
Declared Undergraduate major in math, physics, engineering or computer science

The mount sinai one involves an application and an interview. I'm not sure about the first link you provided but I would be very surprised if they took you simply on the basis of your gpa since the VCU affiliation (third description in the first link) requires an application.
