im (still) pondering whether or not i will defer for a second year, and i was looking at the average age of matriculation for a few medical schools. most of them said 24. however, they also said the age range was 20-40 or so at matriculation at most of them too.

if i defer again, i will be 24 when i enter school. my question is this: are these average ages misleading? i mean if everyone is matriculating at age 22 except a few 40 year olds, it would skew up the numbers unrealistically. or do you really feel that most ofyour classmates are 23-25 when they enter school?

im just trying to get a better picture of how i will fit into my medical school class. i dont want to be older than everyone else! :scared:

I'm 26 and a MS1. I would say that I'm fairly in the middle of the pack. We have a couple of 21 year olds and a couple >40. The majority I would say is around 23-25 but most of those people came right out of undergrad. There will be plenty of people who have masters, two undergrad degrees, took time off for family or research...don't worry to much. I'm happy for my life experiences before med school. It makes me appreciate being here all that much more.

how being in some place makes life easy!!

I am in India- I am 26 yrs old and already finished with my postgraduation in Orthopaedics- now i am a full fledged ortho surgeon in India!!

Ours is 24 I think, my class ranged from 19-49. Majority I think are in the 22-25 age range.

Most in my class are 19-21, due to the BS/MD program... we have one brilliant 18 year old. At a ripe old 27 years of age, I am about the oldest person in my class.
