any idea/link to the average board scores for each specialty? thanks.
you need to be more specific..wo't get any replies like that. How bout I start you off with a few ideas.

Very competetive (>240-250 probably) - rads, ophtho, ent, ortho, uro, plastics, compet gen surg programs

Decently Competetive (>220-240 probably) - Anesthesia, ER med, gem surg, good IM programs, so forth

Not competetive (passing) - FP, IM, Psych, OB GYN (primary care specialties)

Obviously if you want to do IM at hopkins you can't just have a passing score--you need to exceptionally well, these are very general sats, by no means are these that strict--there are many other things taht come to play other than your step one score, but for the extremely compet resid, the step one score is often use as a screening tool. Hope this helps.

'average' should not matter...

you should do as well as you possibly can, because it will open up options for you in any specialty...its all about location!

Ophthalmology keeps track of this. Other specialites that use the SF Match might as well, but I'm not sure. Applicants matching into Ophtho this year had an average of 228 on Step 1. Those who did not match had an average of 218.
