Average Interviewed stats

I just took a look at predents, it seems this year's average interviewed GPA is around 3.6-3.7
And it would seem that DAT doesn't matter too much, as long as you have 20-22 you are in the clear.
So, does this mean the end of the under 3.4 students in dental school? 🙁

Hahaha... as long as you have 20-22? That's a big if since 22 is 96th Percentile 🙂. And pre-dents is always somewhat over inflated, it's just the nature of the beast as far as people who put their stats up, but it's still a very useful tool.

The average ACCEPTED scores for 2008 were something like 3.4-5 and 19AA, so don't think you need to worry. I had a 22AA and 3.3 cGPA and I got in just fine to a number of great schools last year.

Think of the process as being unofficially divided into tiers. If you are above 3.0 (fine, 3.2 to be safe), and 20+ on the DAT's with no low scores on the critical sections (not math), you have a high chance of getting an interview, and consequently getting in. Schools like numbers. Alot of people think that your extracurriculars can make up for low grades, but the fact is, schools want to know you can handle their curriculum, they don't want you to waste their resources and get hits on their reputations by students failing. Some in this boat may do get in, but, think excruciating circumstances and top-grade softs on their apps. For many schools, the interview is required because they want to know you are not a total jackass (atleast not openly). This is based on my personal experience asking people at interviews, and dental students.

It's not like being an URM will have schools overlook extremely poor scores, and URM's that do get in are still extremely qualified.

I have a 3.3 cGPA and a 20 AA 20 TS and I already have 3 interviews - you'll be fine!

VERY true. People see 3.8 and 25 AA on this forum and get scared. 3.2 and 20AA with nothing lower than a 19 stands a very good chance of getting in.

LOL yep thats it, time to give it up, hang up the kleets! Cripes, another person jumping to conclusions and freaking out based off of incomplete information.......people are getting more and more paranoid as the cycle moves ahead....guess I should have expected this..

It's been getting tougher every year for a while now. I think however, with a 3.4 GPA, you should get in somewhere... just apply to enough schools 😉
