Hi, i am wondering if any average applicans have been accepted with AUG MCAT? I keep reading that only great applicants make it in. i would love to hear success stories and stats. Thanx!

you just wanna get some numbers up so you can see who's got what. i don't feel like posting that for you. kiss off. go play nintendo if you're bored.

Well, i guess i will just write my sad record. 3.4 great EC, MCAT 30 (aiming), and not the best record- 2C's, 2W's, but v.good improvement over time. A's in the past 3 semesters. now getting an mph. didn't have enough time to study for april.

Caveman, what is your problem? I have only been on SDN for 2 days and am just trying to get some information. and no, i don't want your stats- i only asked for people who had AVG GPA AND AUGUST MCAT'SWHO WERE ACCEDPTED. can you read? what is wrong with trying to understand if i have even the slightest chance of getting in. all that the medical profession needs is someone with your attitude.

oh ok. well at least now i know what kind of guy you are. with all the McGuyver stuff lately, it's hard to trust or believe in anyone. besides, i'm pissy about my rejection from a school i thought i had a good shot at.

i don't have a problem with your request if it's purely for artistic purposes and not gratuitous, know what i mean (oscar talk).

anyway, don't raise your voice with me punk! i'm just looking out for the good of this site by warding off competitive pricks. you don't smell, you go ahead and pass through mon amie.

I took the August MCAT. I have a 3.5 gpa and 30S. I received 9 interview invitations. The biggest problem was having late interviews when some of the classes were already filled. I got into my favorite school.

Dr.Su,

I was wondering if you have had any work experience with your MPH or did you get that degree mainly to enhance your application to Med School?

I think schools are quite interested in those who already have their MPH and they are even more interested in those that have experience in Public Health. I have worked for 5 years post graduation from UCLA SPH and I think that significantly helped my application.

Dr. Su,
there were many people who received interviews with stats that were not stellar. There was a thread a while back entitled "accepted with mcat's less than 30", look up this thread and you will find that people got into med school with stats that were a bit below average(my mcat is a perfect example). You will also find that people with average stats got plenty of interviews. Don't worry about what everyone's stats are; just do your best and put all of your effort into what you want and you should be fine.

I have posted my stats more in detail on other threads but here is a synopsis:
Non-URM
GPA (science) 3.7
GPA (non-sci. and sci.) ~3.68
August MCAT 27Q
I have received 4 interviews and have earned one acceptance (thus far).
Good luck...it can be done 🙂

I'm not sure if you're interested in anything other than success stories, but I'll post since I fit the profile of an "average" August MCAT applicant.

3.6, 30MCAT, tons of clinical & research activities, engineering major

applied to 14 schools, 4 interviews, 0 acceptance so far

Oh please A.Caveman. You of anyone have no place to even think of calling someone else a prick. Why don't you just welcome mistah shu along instead of being obnoxious as usual. The kid just asked a simple question.

Anyways Shu person...lol...I got into my first choice Rochester with an August MCAT...and an extremely average GPA and an alright MCAT score. Nothing extraordinary. But my whole application was on point--not to mention EC and research. Good luck to you and welcome to sdn 😀 !

oops sorry! ehm, you wanted the average...lol...3.24 cum (ha!) and 26R. Interviews at Rochester, Albany, Morehouse, and Penn State. Rejected Morehouse and Penn State interviews after being accepted at Rochester...possibly might do the same with Albany. Have a great day

Thanx everyone to your responses. to a previous question, i just started with my mph biut have worked in the field before- 3 years of peer AIDS education, and summer internship at an AIDS clinic in Downstate.
IN terms of the MCAT, I think i will try for AUG.I also plan to take upper level sciences in the fall,so maybe those will help. thanx!!!!!

GPA 3.5/MCAT 30M. Tons of EC's, some volunteer, good clinical, no research. From a highly competitive undergrad school. Applied to 23 schools. 14 interviews. Results thus far: 5 acceptances (1 top 10, surprisingly), 3 waitlists. My advice is if you are applying the same summer you take the August MCAT, do everything -- AMCAS app, LOR's, transcripts, secondaries -- as soon as humanly possible. And don't try to do anything else -- I found that applying while studying for the August MCAT was a full time job. Good luck to you, although I don't think you'll need it. It sounds like you'll be fine. 🙂

Thanks for your post SMW. Just wanted to calify, those of us who might not get in this year and have to retake the MCAT should get ready all their AMCAS, LOR's? We would still have a shot for schools that are rolling-in even if we take the MCAT in august?

If you're sure that the only thing working against you this year is your MCAT score, then I would say you could re-take in August and would have a shot even at schools with rolling admissions (all the schools I was accepted to or waitlisted at except for 1 are rolling). This is assuming your LOR's, personal statement, secondary essays, EC's, etc. are top notch and will make you stand out from the crowd. Hope you get in this year, and don't have to go through this whole exhausting process again!! 🙂
