It is not so cut and dry. While you can have a decent Step I score and match at a good peds/IM program.....to get into....say...CHOP for peds....or Hopkins for IM....you are gonna need a higher score.

A good rule of thumb......the higher the unmatched rate for a specialty....the higher the Step I score that you are gonna need.

Of course, if you are a really good looking female then you are gonna match derm easy.

I heard that ENT and Derm were really easy this past year.... 183-184 was average for matchees

Psychiatry was tough, a friend of mine applied for the program in El Paso with a 256 and he didnt even interview!!

Plan on making at least 230 or higher if you want to do Family practice. 🙂

People think Derm is hard but I matched super early (I just started M3) and I dont even have board scores. They are dying for people in that field. I hear it is crappy and the pay sucks thats why no one wants to go into it.

Just do well and no doors will be closed.

You guys are hilarious. 🙂

General Surgery is great too...now that there's the new 80-hour week, no one wants to apply anymore. It's like they feel they would be short-changed (bring back the 120-hour week!). 😉

Is it true that looks matter for derm? or someone kidding here?
