Hi! I was wondering if any of you guys either have or have had the AVMA student health insurance? Right now I have the insurance plan offered through my school, but it is quite horrible and a bit on the expensive side. We can basically only be seen by the on campus health center doctors and have a rather high deductible.

I am stuck with the school insurance through December, but can opt out come the spring semester and wanted to know if the AVMA insurance is worth it... any advice is much appreciated 🙂

I've paid for individual health insurance before ($100/month with $1000 deductible), and there were a few things I was weary of after hearing there presentation: Although the overall price is similar to what I was paying ($140/month with $250 deductible), the prescription plan covers only $1000 (could be $500) in prescriptions, and that's based on the COST of the prescription. Even with birth control (approximately $25/month), you use about $300 of that.

Otherwise, I'm sure you can find more information on the website and you can get a quote for the insurance.

I hated it. I ended up paying LOTS more than I ever have and they only cover the pill for BC (or they did when I had them).

I looked into the insurance, but my current BlueCross/Blueshield is way better. I only pay $94 a month and have a lower deductible and co-pay than what AVMA offers.

Just shop around. If you're young and don't smoke, you can probably find a pretty good deal.
