Stress during the exam is real and makes one forget a lot of imp. things - but awareness beforehand and practicing to avoid these, will help big time !

1. Forgetting to wash hands before phyical exam
2. Not referring to the patient by his name
3. Forgetting to look for Carotid Bruit and JVP in a cardiac case
4. Not mentioning D/Ds in the descending order of probablity in the
specific SP
5. Forgetting to use an ophthalmoscope in a case of HT, DM or visual
Blurring
6. Not asking about Hematuria in a case of Hemoptysis and vice-versa
7. Failing to ask for permission before any examination
8. Forgetting menstrual history in a female patient
9. Forgetting to counsel on smoking and alcohol (Even real-time
physicians apparently forget this 😛 )

It will be great to have this list grow ! - anyone ?

you're kidding right?

during class, we always do these things.

Things happen on the exam dude - either because students take these for granted - or if they were never trained like that (in case of some IMGs) 🙂

one question.
about using ophthalmoscope:
If we don't dilate the pt's pupil, it is not easy to see the fundi.
