I am starting an away rotation at an instutition I have not received an interview invite from yet. Is it likely they can still offer me an interview with an away rotation so late in the season?

Yes. Programs aren't done handing out interview invitations yet.

If the institution is in a different city, you might consider stopping by the office halfway into your rotation and asking the program coordinator if it would be possible for them to squeeze you in for an interview before you leave. It would be a reasonable 'ask'.

'different city' = don't do this if the institution is in the same city as your current medical school

'halfway into your rotation' = don't do this on the first day. Give the program coordinator some time to circle back with other people (e.g., program director, maybe one of the attendings who is directly supervising you) to check to see if you are a reasonable interview.

'program coordinator' = s/he should be your first stop (although at some institutions it could also be reasonable to ask the program director directly)

I agree with twright. Politely asking is fine, especially if you indicate that you are trying to see if you can avert having to buy another set of plane tickets.
