Away Rotation Pre-requisites?

I am considering emergency medicine but my medical school does not offer too much as far as EM rotations are concerned (it is still under the domain of trauma surgery for us.) I have had absolutely Zero experience in EM, and I am considering doing an away rotation at a school that I am interested in for residency. Is it career suicide to take the away rotation as my FIRST rotation in EM? Or should I take an EM rotation at a place where I don't care where I match first, and then follow up with and be a superstar at the one I'd like to match to.

Hmm, I'm not sure my question is as clear as I'd like it to be...
1) Away rotation at institution of choice - can it be done without prior experience in the field or should I wait and do an EM rotation first elsewhere then do the away at my school of choice?
