Away rotations and conferences

I plan to do an away rotation next October. However, I think I'll have a conference to attend one of the weeks during this time. Is it poor form to take a week off from an away rotation for this purpose, or is it something that would be ok?

i personally wouldn't do it. one week is quite a bit to miss. can you do the away rotation in september or november?

I'm thinking that's what I may have to do. I guess it's kind of not fair to take an away spot and then not utilize a week of it.

I would do either the conference or the rotation, but not both.

If you were to come to my program for a rotation, and took a week off for anything but a death in the family, I am sure that you would not be invited to interview.

Thanks for the info, all. The schedule works out so that the conference starts a day or two after my hopeful rotation dates end. So crisis averted.
