I realize that 90% of people on the Pre Med Forum won't know these answers, but the last time I posted a question on the Med School forum I was politely shown the door. So I'm hoping some of our more veteran students or Admin will lend a hand with this.
Here goes: I understand that in certain circumstances M3 or M4 years you can request to do some of your rotations at an away institution. Not just down the road from the school, but in a different state and medical system.

- Does anyone have any wisdom on how this works?
- Is it rare or fairly common?
- Do only certain schools or certain practices allow away rotations?
- Other than the cost and inconvenience, are there tangible disadvantages to this? Advantages?
