Anyone ever done an away at USC or UC San Diego? Thoughts on the area, schools? Where to live? How to get around? Help!

For what specialty?

I did an away rotation at USC back in 2004 and stayed with a friend who lived in the Palms area (several miles west of LA County).

I'm going to be doing medicine. I don't know anyone out there so I have to find somewhere to live I guess.

When I did an away rotation on the East Coast I used Craigslist to find a place to sublet for a month.
