Awesome documentary about Harvard docs over 21 years!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
*Sigh*

i really do want to watch it but it's unavailable to canadians

Something else i'll suggest is the 7 part documentary Hopkins, shot by ABC. Follows students and physicians at Johns Hopkins. It's available on iTunes for a couple bucks (americans only once again, so if you're canadian like me you have to get it through...sneakier means...).

A friend pointed this out to me. It's a 2 hour NOVA documentary, and it takes you through 7 doctors, from first year Harvard Med School to 21 years later.

It made me realize why so many doctors appear so grouchy all the time lol...

So if you haven't already seen it, it's well worth watching

Seen it earlier this year. Super interesting to see the different personalities that matriculate to HMS. I especially like the psychologist and the hippie doc....or maybe those are the only two I can remember. Thank, I think I'll watch it again. 👍

It's a fascinating documentary, but I think it paints a picture more negative than reality. Watch it and take to heart the lessons it teaches about the physician's personal life, but don't assume that your life will necessarily look like that in 15 years.

👍👍👍👍👍 possibly the greatest documentary ever made 😀

lol, it wouldn't let me watch it because it thought I was outside of the US. I'm not. Guess I'll try from another location later.

i found this documentary pretty interesting. it did make me sad that most of them (? right? speaking from fuzzy memory here) ended up getting divorced.
i was also especially surprised by the ones who ended up not practicing, but doing bench research instead. they could have saved some $$$ by getting a PhD instead of an MD!

even if you can't watch it there is a website that profiles all the different doctors who were on the show: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/doctors/

I found this documentary to be really depressing. I think it is somewhat biased to show the "negativity" of doctor's lives. That said--probably well worth watching.

I agree, a lot of it was depressing, especially Tom, the super fat guy... I was rooting for him. He was my favorite until he was showing off his house and I realized how cocky he was...

"Back there's Hoover National Park. So, this [my house] is isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and neither am I." I don't know, just the way he said it made me dislike him from that point forward. And when he referred to his third wife as "part three" right in front of her... lol!
