First of all I would like to thank everyone on this forum for there helpful advice. I just finished taking the DAT last week. Well here are my stats.

PAT: 21
QR : 19
RC : 21
Bio : 20
GC : 20
OC : 22
TS : 21
AA : 20

and here is where the input is needed, my GPA

GPA overall : 2.89
Science GPA: 3.34

The reason why my overall GPA is low is because of my first entire year of college I managed to fail each and every course. Do you SDNer's think that this will get my app thrown out from the get go? Or do I still have a shot. I applied to 10 different schools. Really stressing out! Anything I could do to maybe increase my chances such as contacting the schools directly and telling them my situation? Any input would be very helpful.

you are just fine. they wiil see that u have changed from your first year. hopefully u applied to the easier schools. that will give u a better chance.

dont sweat it... you'll be fine..i did my first year of undergrad correspondence because i was in the clink...i was ok....you've got solid numbers

I'm in the same situation as you, my DAT scores are the same AA-20, TS-21, and PAT-22, but my GPA's are switched. I had a bad freshman year too. So I was glad to hear that someone else is in a similar boat. Good luck man.

I am is the same boat. Freshman year was awesome, but it sucked academically. I have 3.4/3.3 Science/non science and I improved just like you. I got almost the exact same DATS (20/20). Hopefully, we will get accepted... just kidding, we actually have very strong chances of getting in. From what i heard, AD comittees like seeing people who have changed in maturity and responsibility. Shows that we can be molded into good dentists.

Remember when we were in high school and your guidance counselor always said "you will learn out who you are in college and become a great person", no one believed it. But i be dammed, its true. 😀

Gluck, and congratz on the scores 🙂

Your great, and consistent I might add, DAT scores shold help you quite a bit. If you attend any interviews expect dental schools to raise the topic of your first year. If you have done well in your science courses this should too bode well for you. All in all I don't think your screwed by any means. Best of luck!

its good that you had your worst year at the very beginning.... improvement is what they look for... from the looks of it.. you improved dramatically..... you need to let them know exactly why... like the previous post mentioned... be prepared to explain this situation... at your interviews...or in supplemental application questionaires.. your DAT scores and Science GPA are great! Good Luck!
