i was just wondering if any current students or anyone familiar with the glendale area could recommend me several reputable apartments near the school that i could look into? i've tried online searching...but there's just TOO much nonsense that you have to sort out through.

if i must, i'll probably just drive around the school and just check out every place i see...but i thought maybe some current students could point me out to some good places that i can look into.

thanks

I'm sure some first or second years will post and help, but I lived at San Prado and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's not cheap for a 1br ($800 I want to say?), but better for a 2br ($900-1000) and just generally a very nice place to live where you are sort of immune to to the customary crime and traffic of Phoenix (I'm a third year living in Scottsdale, and after having my car vandalized twice in my condo parking lot, trust me this city has it's share of meth addicts/illegal immigrants/illegal immigrant meth addicts).

It is also directly across the street from the school. San Lagos is similar. A little further away and bigger though. Either is nice. Google "Mark Taylor apartments."

I'm currently at AZCOM's SMP and I live at San Lagos. It's just down one block from San Prado where some other classmates live.

It's a pretty nice place, although my apartment is right next to 59th, in which I can hear all of the traffic. That said, it's about a 5 min walk to campus because I can get out a side gate to campus, or just climb the 5 ft wall.

I would also mention to them that you're a Midwestern student so they put you near the school when choosing an apartment. It may not always work out but that's the reason I'm so close to campus I think.

Rent is 995, no utilities included.

thanks for the advice so far.

are both of those places you mentioned owned by the same company? if so, do both not include any utilities? how much is it extra, usually, per month for the utilities (water, electric, internet, etc.)?

Yes, they're both owned by Mark Taylor.

The water/trash bill is around 25-35 every month for us; it is added to the rent each money as extra. APS aka power bill is anywhere from 35-85, depending on usage. My roommate and I are much more tolerant of heat than cold so our last bill was 80. In summer though we didn't turn on the AC at all and it stayed at 35-40. It will be really hot during the summer/beginning of fall and really cold at night for several days, so expect to pay a bit.

The internet company around here just raised their internet rates to 33 a month for basic internet service. We don't have a TV, so we don't know the cost of cable or whatever you would want. We also don't use a phone line either.

I am first year at AZCOM and I live off campus. In addition to San Prado and San Lagos, which are great apartments right across from the school, there are other apartments in the 3-4 mile radius of the school. I live in a 1BR at Sierra Canyon (Rent $650-700/month) which is a decent apartment complex. One perk that they offered was a free 42" flat screen TV (property of the apartment) for 2nd floor apartments. I enjoy living here and it is around a 5 min drive to campus. Other apartments to consider are The Pavilions at Arrowhead (another Mary Taylor apartment community), Camden Towne Center, Strayhouse just to name a few.

Thanks for listing those! Do you think there's a decent amount of students that live in these? I don't really want to live on campus, but would if it might be easier meeting people, etc.

I second the sierra canyon apts. 🙂
