Hi,
I have to decide b/w these 2 schools and my date for the deposit is approaching fast. I was wondering if any of you who have interviewed at both schools can give some input about the criteria you used for judging or what made you decide one over the other.
Personally i really liked the curriculum and facilities at KCUMB but loved the place and weather in Arizona. (I am from MI and that nice warm weather was amazing).
Also if somebody could give some input about the match rates and quality of rotations at both schools, that would be fantabulous.
🙂

If you have any inklings of wanting to practice in MI or in a neighboring state in the future, I would choose KCUMB.

i too am stuck between these two schools. also, i was looking through my papers today and found that kcumb requires a backgroudn check form to be sent in 10 days after acceptance and i just sent it in today. do you think this going to be a major problem?

I have to buffer this with the "everybody's choice is personal" line, but i just spent weeks deciding this very thing. I talked to several students and even used Depakote's spreadsheet method (it was amazing, lol). PM me if you wanna know more. It seems im the walking KCUMB info factory lately...

Thanks to smarterchild's post i just realized i hadn't sent in my credit check form either and so just mailed it in. Hopefully it should be ok coz of all the letters i get from KCUMB- they all remind me about the deposit and not the form.
Also i am using my own method for rating the 2 schools (similar to Depakote's) but am still unsure.
- I had another question though, whats the relationship (if any) between the medical school you go to and the place you end up working as a doctor.
-Also for schools that give you the opportunity of setting up your own rotations- how do you manage accomodation in each place where you rotate-Isn't it a pain finding a place to stay every few months?

I know in the end it's everybody's choice but just looking for some more input that would help me decide one way or the other.

I think a lot of this decision comes down to location, but I also look at another important (to me) factor. I feel that the older, originally established Osteopathic schools are the way to go. Even in our lectures, our professors remark that the original five are considered the "Ivy" of the DO schools. Granted, this means SQUAT to some but to me it matters. They have an established alumni base as well as strong reputations.

Good luck and either way you are a winner!

Umm, I know very little about this. But maybe my ill-informed ramblings will prompt someone with actual info to post. I believe at some schools (?) there is an organization (but I think its a national thing) that helps students find lodging for interim times (ie if you're just going to be there a month or so). And I think I heard that it was free?? See, we need someone who knows, b/c I'd like to know for sure.

I don't know anything about KCUMB except for that my own DO went there and seems pretty well-adjusted (no pun intended 🙂 ). That being said, I'm 99% sure I'm going to AZCOM next year for the following reasons:

- Diverse patient population in Phoenix area;
- Rotations can be done almost entirely in Phoenix (except rural rotations, which can be done fairly close by);
- Beautiful campus, excellent facilities;
- Amazing board pass rates: 99-100% for step 1, best of all DO schools;
- There are other allied health professionals at the school (student podiatrists, nurse anesthesists, perfusionists, etc. and they are starting a dental program) - I just like the idea of that;
- Early clinical experience, starting in the first year;
- Arizona is niiiice for someone who's been living in the boonies of the tundra for the past six years (even the cost of living isn't so shabby)
- There's ASU down the street so my fiance can get his master's there.

Just my input. I feel your pain - we're lucky to have decisions to make but they can certainly be agonizing.
