Hello Fellows and SDN,

This is my first time posting here and I would look forward to use this as my supplemental tool for any uncertainty question that I have.

First, I received B+ during my high school junior year where I registered for a course that is similar to Organic Chemistry (but more on Molecular Orbital side). Reason why I took this course is because I wanted to understand how synthetic chemistry works, but I was not disciplined or dedicated enough to study my hardest. I am now senior and maintaining 4.0 after I learned that I need high GPA first and foremost.

I want to know whether this course should be reported in AMCAS, especially this course was intended to give for high school student, but I read that I need to report it if the course was provided from the institution. However, B+ is counted as 3.3, which will decrease my GPA by few margin or more.

My question is whether I should report this course during AMCAS application and, if I am planning to apply to HMS as well, whether not reporting would backfire me for interview from HMS.

Thank you for any feedback.

Also want to note that it was online course and not dual-enrollment.

Welcome to the forums.

You said you read the applicant guide for AMCAS. I think it's clear, and if you have questions, ask the AMCAS help team.

You are incorrect if you are a senior with a 4.0 who is worried that a B+ will sink your application. What do your prehealth advisors suggest? They would know how it's reported on your transcripts.

P.S. It appears we have updated all information for the Applicant Guide for 2026-2027 applicants.

I apologize that I wasn't trying to say that B+ will sink my application. What I meant is that whether I should report it to AMCAS especially it is not for dual-enrollment as well as it was online course, especially 4.0 would look better than 3.96 in some sense.

Maybe if you couldn't get Summa Cum Laude because of the 0.04 GPA difference. Even people who finished with a 3.96 GPA often "round up" for self-affirmation. The only time rounding down made anyone look better is in regards to self-reporting weight or (when you're older) age. Admissions teams don't think that is significant.

Read the guidance and ask AMCAS or your prehealth advisors, who would know how policies apply to your specific course and how it appears on your transcript.

I don't know which program you took, but I presume your transcript is part of the Continuing Education program, not in the University registrar's office, since I'm guessing the course was not for college credit. Again, confirm with AMCAS and your prehealth team.
