Congrats on your score! Sorry it is not what you wanted it to be, I know that feeling too well.

I would wait until you hear back from schools and secondaries. I would not rush to take your MCAT again. What happens if you score the same score or even worse?

I got a 511 (129,126,128,128)- which is a little far from my FL3- 518 and FL4–516. I was psyched out bc I had a traumatic event the morning of and I know I could do better. Everyone said bio was the easiest section and idk what happened and I choked. On FL3 and FL4 I never got under a 130 for bio or psych. I’m torn cuz I’m applying this cycle and don’t even know if they’ll see my second score if I do take it again- should I take it as soon as possible to maximize my chances? I was really banking on USC or UCLA but they seem so far out of reach now. Im a full time caretaker for my mom so staying close to home in LA is ideal. I’m applying to schools in the 511 median range but they’re outside of California and I just don’t see myself actually going there.

I’m a California applicant with a 3.97 GPA, good amount of extracurriculars, and disadvantaged status.

Should I retake my mcat in case I don’t get in this year? Should I do it as soon as possible or wait a little while so preparing for it doesn’t conflict with my secondaries? Are there any schools you’d recommend and any tips you could give me for them? Any help at all is appreciated.
I am in the same exact boat except with a significantly lower mcat (504) after scoring 512-513 on practice tests. Definitely going to follow this thread. It seems like our applications would almost be reviewed before we even get our new scores though which sucks.

Don't rush it and don't base a potential score off 2 Full lengths, they may have just played to your strengths, which may or not work on the actual thing. If a 511 was within all 4 FL, then you should not retake. Hundreds (thousands?) of people with 520+ don't get into UC schools every year.

Do NOT retake!!!

Take 2 or more practice tests and if you are hitting 518 or above consistently then retake.

You're applying to get into a medical school, not a specific medical school. Even if your MCAT score were 524, you wouldn't be guaranteed to get an acceptance from any specific school.

A 511 is a perfectly competitive score, and retaking it has very little potential benefits compared to the possible downsides. Best case scenario, you score a ~518, which only marginally improves your application since most schools look at all of your test scores. If you score similarly, adcoms will think you made a poor decision to retake so soon after your first try. Worst case scenario, you score several points lower, and sink your application.

Nope nope nope. Absolutely no reason unless your heart is set on Harvard and you don't want to be a doctor unless you can go there.

It's like landing a nice trick shot in front of your friends. Just bask in the achievement you have. Don't be like "I'll bet I can do that 2 times in a row and the second time will be even better!"

What was your avg from the FLs I got a 516 on 3 and 512 actual. I feel like 3 felt very inflated tbh.

Have you submitted your primary? Schools are under no obligation to wait for a new MCAT score. They can look at your application using your first score and decide if they will offer an interview.
One thing that stood out is that you don’t see yourself attending an out of state school! I totally understand your feelings but maybe you shouldn’t even apply out of state until your life and home situation calm down. If you apply and are accepted and decide not to enroll it could impact acceptance at any other school in the future.
