hi all
do u think bachelor degree is necessary to get accepted? i got 3.5-3.7 GPA and planing on taking the dat in august so what do u think my chances are?

Your GPA is close to what mine is. Last year I applied without a bachelors degree and got only interviews. With the degree this year I was accepted. I think in the past it was alot easier to get in without the degree but as competition goes up it will only get harder.

hmm just wondering if this is science gpa only or overall?

let me get this clear...are you guys talking about applying without getting a BS degree or applying and haven't gotten a BS degree yet? The majority of the people apply in their junior year like myself and we haven't gotten our BS degrees, and it seems to be just fine. They don't care if you have your BS by the time you apply, just do well on your pre-regs. That's my take.

My first year applying I would not have had my degree if I had been accepted. I didn't have it done by the time I applied this past cycle, but now have it before entering dental school. 👍

hi
well yes i mean applying without getting a BS degree. and my grades in the preq all A with 2 b+ but i got 2 c+ in non-science classes and that was for an illness reasons so what do u think do think do i have a chance? :scared:

you get your certificate after 3 weekend long seminars for $49.95. BUT you can get it imediatly for $99.95. it's up to you

well i meant the whole schooling period how many years that will take and is it true that the first 2years is hard and the then it will be easier later?

3.46 science wont get you into dental school without a bachelors degree, unless u get 25+ across the DATs and some crazy extra curriculars. To get in early, ud need at MINIMUM (assuming u have 21+ MINIMUM DAT scores) 3.7+ in sci/overall gpa.

it is best if you have a degree by the time you enter dental school... unless you have a 4.0 with what you've completed and 22+ DAT scores. But with a completed degree with average DAT scores (~18-19) and average GPAs (~3.5+)... apply early (before all the smart people) and get in early! its that simple! if there's no one to compare your stats with.... then what's stopping them from granting you an interview? Then the interview is all you... not stat will help you there! one more thing... the 2007 cycle can thank the 2006 cycle for setting newer and HIGHER standards! (thank god I got in already b/c I can't compete with 20+ DAT scores!)

It all depends. Traditionally it takes 4 years to graduate with a BS right. Well it seams to me that it takes 5 years for a large sum of people to for various reasons. So if you were to apply after your 3rd year with having 120 credits finished by the time you were to matriculate, just some of them are the wrong credits for a BS, many schools, not all by any stretch of the imagination, actual take this into consideration and basically figure you are prepared enough because you have as many credits for a bS just not the exact correct classes for a certain major, as long as you have a bunch of upper level biology classes done, very important. So it is not very much harder.
Now if you are talking about applying after only going to college for 2 yrs hoping to get accepted with only the min. 90 credits(3 yrs) by matriculation, now that is fairly difficult.

Agreed.

do u guys think age make a difference in acceptance decision or not? 😕

Yeah, I think age does play a factor. Dental schools are more willing to accept older candidates because they have had life experience whereas most of us are in our early 20s when we apply. So the younger you are, the more you have to prove that you are mature as well as being qualified. Assuming that you're 20-21 and applying after two years of undergrad, I would expect an uphill battle to get into dental school, more so than if you were to apply after three years of undergrad like most applicants.

well that is not entirely true. there are always exceptions like me. i didn't have a BS, my gpa was 3.45, and my Dat was slightly below average. That being said, i was extremely lucky to get in. Out of the 6 schools i applied to i only got one interview. I think what did it for me was my dental assisting experience in the guard and my interview was good. My advice to anyone would be to go for the degree but apply early because you might just get lucky.

I applied after two years of undergrad b/c I wanted to go through the process once so I'd be ready for the "real" time after my third year. I took the DAT and applied and luckily, I was accepted. It's possible, and if anything apply to one school just to be exposed to the process. Good luck.

True! I second that!

can u guys tell me if i decide to get a BS what u suggest is the easiest and most recognized and give me better chance in being accepted and i earned medical assistance degree so how good is it to have that without the BS if i want to apply and if i want to get in fall 2007 when should i apply? 😕
