Back up plans if I failed step1

Pharmacy school is a bit dramatic. You probably did ok as almost everyone walks out of that test feeling like crap. If you did fail though, you will just take it again and pass and move on with your life. If you are from a US MD school, you are still sitting pretty good.

For an anecdotal example, I am a DO student and one of the mid-tier academic programs I applied to said the reqs for getting an interview include a DO student with a 550 COMLEX or greater (which is above average), a FMG with a USMLE over 250, or a USMG with the USMLE passed in no more than 2 attempts. So you will be fine.

or retake it if you fail... And when it times to apply for the match, you can also apply to a bunch of preliminary surgery spots (i.e. the road to nowhere). 1-year post grad training will at least give you a chance to be a licensed physician in some states. But employment prospect will be limited from what I have heard...

I plan to do that if I fail or score anything below 210 on step 1... It's definitely throwing a hail mary pass, but at least you will have a license to practice medicine after spending over a quarter of a million $ on a degree.

If you fail, you will be understandably upset, but then you will pick yourself up, pick up your books, study some more, maybe get some help/advice, and retake. Failing Step 1 is not a reason to immediately jump ship.

Pretty much everyone walks out of USMLE exams thinking they bombed it. Even the people who end up with a 260. Heck I though I failed Step 2 CS and it has a 96% pass rate or something ridiculous. These tests play games with your mind.

Honestly, just try to focus on other things until you get your score back. You can't do anything about it anyway.

If you fail you're going to want to find a job that has benefits. I heard that costco is hard to get into but they take care of you when you make it. Also public sanitations workers make a decent living and you remain in great shape hopping on and off the truck all day.

Best of luck!

While this made me lol, don't stress too much about it OP. You most likely passed, but in the event that you failed, just retake it. It isn't the end of the world, plenty of people fail Step1 and still manage to match on their first try.

This is drastic as well. You still have a lot of medical school left...Getting below a 210 on Step 1 shouldn't be the end. When it comes to the match just apply broadly. And AT LEAST have a back up specialty (an ACTUAL specialty, don't just stop at prelim surgery....that's silly).

That must've been a good program.

More than likely you are being overly worried and will get a decent score and pass.

But, in the event, you do not pass. Just have to take it again and then consider less competitive specialties.

That's why I always say you can decide what you want to be until you get your Step 1 back.
