Hey guys,
So I really can't imagine backing up and doing something other than ENT. So I think I am going to back up into a Prelim Surgery and try again if I don't get in this year. I think I will have a better shot as a Prelim Surgery because my only weakness is my low class ranking and I feel that doing well in Prelim year would alleviate programs' concerns about my clinical ability. Otherwise my USMLE scores, letter, and research are pretty good. Also, I and don't mind repeating the intern year if I do get in. My question is, on the ERAS application, where they ask what I am trying to get into eventually, what do I put? Do I actually put Otolaryngology? Don't these general surgery people dislike ENT? Should I say I'm trying to get into a Categorical General Surgery just to get the best Prelim spot I can get? I mean, what is the criteria to get into the best Prelim spot? They can't want all Urologists and Ophthalmogists who aren't going to work to impress anyone?
