few weeks ago , I had a breakdown and was hospitalized in the psychiatric unit for brief psychotic disorder . I was also charged for criminal trespass and i plead guilty for borough ordinance ( disorderly person ) .
I would like to know if it's still possible for me to get a position in a residency program .
I need sincere advice . thanks .

just disclose it on your application for license, you'll be fine. Dont' mention the nervous breakdown to ANYONE though.

I think a better approach for you would be to consider why you ended up trespassing and being hospitalized. Do you have a mental illness? A substance abuse problem? Is this a managable chronic problem, an acute episode brought on by unique circumstances? I would then make sure you got the right help you need. Yes, you could probably get a residency, but if your not healthy then the last thing you want to do is endure the rigors of a residency program. You really need to be a stable individual to get through it, otherwise you may find yourself jumping out a window, and this is not meant as a joke, your history is very consistent with a professional whom later commits suicide. I would also be honest with yourself. If you get to a point that you are mentally healthy and can maintain that health then go for it, if not then find something else, there are options.

What exactly is considered an 'impaired' physician? It is drug abuse to a high degree? Is it a physician who is well controlled on psych meds? ???

Also, does the PD need to know about these issues?

I'm sure teh PD WILL find out about substance abuse, abusers tend to get worse with time. On the license application it says do you have any serious mental illness that may inhibit your ability to perform blah blah - so well controlled or not, they're asking about it. I think if a med student has schizophrenia or severe depression, this could definitely be an issue. And if you're caught lying on that application about a health issue, you can definitely have your license revoked.
