I've seen a couple similar threads on other SD.net forums, but I haven't seen any for PT. I'm wondering how much junk PT students have to haul during a typical class day. Books, changes of clothes, etc.? Do most students get backpacks? In my couple visits to PT schools, I haven't noticed many.

What do you have to haul? How do you carry it? I'll either be at Georgia State or Emory next year, so I am especially curious to see what those students prefer to do.

every school I've toured has had lockers available for students. From what I've seen they just have standard backpacks with computer/notebook and maybe a text. Everything else goes in the locker,

We use backbacks for our laptops/tablets and texts, notebooks, etc. We also have lockers for changing for lab practicals - I usually just carry whatever clothes I will have to change into during the day and put them in the locker when I get to class that day.

How many notebooks/textbooks do you usually have to carry? I'm trying to get an idea of how big a bag most students need.

I usually carry my laptop and the texts I need for that day - 1 or 2 books. My pack is a standard size canvas backpack that I got from the bookstore at my undergrad school.

I would invest in a good backpack. Get one with plenty of pockets for pencils, medicine, tissue paper, and other accessories. I usually carry a folder with the papers I need for the day, a clipboard, two water bottles, my laptop), a couple of notebooks, and not much else. I would also buy a gym bag to pack your lab clothes/shoes in.

I am on backpack #3 - I made sure this one had plenty of padding at the bottom. I used an REI hiking backpack and a standard Adidas backpack, but the corners of the textbooks quickly wore holes in the bottoms. (Stupid heavy anatomy books - but I found the e-book versions did not have page numbers and the resolution of some of the graphics were poor...). Maybe that is not an issue for many people who drive, but my commute is about three hours total. After (way too much) researching, I have the North Face Surge II. Plenty of pockets, comfortable shoulder straps, and laptop and iPad compartments. If you don't want to pay that much, the Swiss Army backpacks at Target look good.

i have just a normal backpack (well normal for the most part. Its a CamelBak backpack. Its actually nice b/c i dont have to carry water bottles or worry about refilling them. I can carry a good amount of water and it stays cool most of the school day). but we have lockers too. I usually just take my laptop, clipboard, notebook, and textbook if we need it to class. I keep my lab clothes, PT kit, and like 3-4 books in my locker. I keep some other books in my car too...check to see if your PT prgm is switching to E-books though. Apparently our prgm is thinking about doing this and then it really wouldnt matter what type of bag you bring if all your books are on your laptop
