oh gosh- are we really supposed to keep it short? I was trying to keep it just at 5150-5200 characters. Seriously guys ...i am confused now..

I used nearly all of the 5200 characters. It's not a problem as long as you actually have something substantive to say. Don't try to lengthen it out just to fill the space though. Say what you need to say, and if that takes all 5200 characters, then that's what it takes.

exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank you. Still if others feel otherwise - do share. Really don't want to mess up the application just due to lack of correct info.

I applied to Pedo last year. I was advised by some predecessors to keep the essay sort and sweet. Program directors have to read hundreds of essays. They are not interested in spending extra time on a one-page filled with words. I had to trim my essay down to about 3500 characters (with spacing), or 550 words. Hope this helps.

I had to do some heavy thesaurusing and sentence reconstruction to get mine from something like 54xx down to exactly 5200 characters.
