I feel I did horribly on an interview. I was sleep deprived, having a cold, and the fact one of my interviewers came realllllyyyy late (like near the end of my interview and I had to redo the introduction and the entire thing was interrupted, I said it's alright, of course, but I was not pleased). This does not represent how I usually am on interviews. Should I contact the school and explain? If so, how should I say it so that I get my points across without being unprofessional/whiny? Please help me (PM is welcome)!

I'm so sad. All that travel, hotel, expenses, anticipation, hope...gone to nothing because some interviewer decided to be late. I was so engrossed in conversation with my interviewer until the interruption. Then it just went downhill. I don't think it's fair!

Thanks

I personally wouldn't. I'd stick with happy thoughts, a thank you email or note. Hopefully your interviewers can see you were thrown off your rhythm cause it's not very professional to be late and hopefully the first interviewer has your back assuming it went well with that person.

Thank you but, they probably don't even realize what they did. I can't count on them to be fair. If they were unprofessional enough to be that late, then I don't trust them with anything. Sorry, I'm so upset right now...

Honestly, I think you just need to let it go. I had a horrible interview a few weeks ago, nothing you can do 🙁. You did your best, now just send a nice thank you note and hope for the best!

Though, I have friends who have had HORRIBLE interviews and then still gotten accepted. So don't lose hope! 🙂

Regardless if they realize it or not, I personally wouldn't run the risk of making it worse by calling them out on it. Just gotta hope things will be good cause they're already done

You know, you can always withdraw your application to said school.

Bro, you probably weren't prepared to answer their tough questions. You were put in a stressful situation mister, and you did not adapt to it well. You should have done greater interview preparation, and not let the nerves affect you sir.

They can be as late as they want and you shouldn't complain gent, because they are the ones to make the decision to let you in or not. Take it as a learning experience guy, and you'll know what to expect for your next interviews homeboy.

👍👍👍

and what if you have to deal with your patients in the future. These people will be 10x worse than your interviewer. I am sorry that it happened to you but at the same time, you need to learn how to deal with it.

Life isn't fair to begin with. Some are born richer than others, some are born taller, hotter than others. Some are born with Down syndrome, a lot aren't. 🙁

Did the interview start to go bad because you were annoyed/agitated/pissed off that the interviewer was late so you were a bit unprofessional?

I don't get it.

What school? What's the big deal with an interruption ?

Sounds like a good learning experience...

Interviews are supposed to be open discussions with no script...why would an interviewer coming in late disrupt you unless you had a memorized rant about yourself?

Not to beat this into the ground but it is up to you to be professional and handle the situation with a pleasant "Oh, Dr. Joe, glad you could make the interview. Dr. Bob and I were just talking about X,Y,Z. If you have any questions to get up to speed just let me know!" Dr. Joe could have been handling an emergency clinical situation upstairs or just taken his kid to the ER....

Just live and learn and knock out your next ones!!

Good luck!!

I wouldn't contact them as it will be construed as desperation and/or someone making excuses. Your interview is a done deal at this point since the interviewer has already written an evaluation of you and anything you say or do is futile. Hence, why thank you notes are useless.

It's unfortunate but nothing ever goes perfectly as planned. I would've taken the interruption as a perfect opportunity to shine so now 2 people would be advocating for you.

But you know what, just think of the expenses as a tuition of interview practice. You'll do better in your next interviews.

 You forgot to include homey.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful opinions. I was indeed excessively nervous. If I weren't this nervous, I probably wouldn't be affected by minor things like people coming in late. I got into a depressed mode because I thought I was at a disadvantage compared to my peers (and probably was), but it's not a big deal. I just need to not be nervous next time no matter what! With this learning experience, I'll definitely do better at my next interview.
Albino, why are you so obsessed with addressing me as a guy? I'm not offended or anything, but I just find it interesting and kinda out of nowhere lol. 🙂

It probably wasn't as terrible as you think! Either way, it's over and you can't do much about it, except just start thinking about the next one, and stop dwelling on this one. 🙂 I agree with whoever posted earlier, I wouldn't call. I'm sure everything will turn out ok!

How many people actually nail their interview as hard as their fantasy dream girl anyway?... 😛

It's easier to nail a fantasy dream girl IMHO lol.

No point in calling them. It's over with. I'm still confused on how the other interviewer coming in late ruined your interview though. Did you make up a story to the first interviewer and when you retold it to your second interviewer, the first interviewer noticed some inconsistencies?

I would NEVER call in this situation... are you kidding me? your basically going to call and admit you have no confidence in your interview skills.... why would you highlight a possible weakness?

Liston to this. This is solid advice! 👍

Hate to be the one to say it, but life isn't fair. Some get bad interviews, some get the Piano passage, some people are saints but have the worst things happen to them, some....etc etc.

That's life. Gotta live, learn, smile and move on =) Ace your next interviews!

Hi there,

If you feel you really need to discuss something at the interview but was not given the opportunity to do so, then you can request a second one but make sure you give a good reason when requesting such. This is applicable for borderline applicants but be polite and try to be understanding. Voicing your discontent will work against you so be very humble when you ask. I feel that if an appliant spends the time, effort, money to come then I will make sure that person gets his/her quality time with me. DP
