I don't think i have ever gotten more pissed up in my life when i saw on thursday my performance evaluation by the Rx manager at walgreens . I was surprised to receive an overall rating of 1.9 /5. I was not told why i scored so low,. Everyone(store managers) in the store was surprised that i scored so low, as they know how i work, my customer service skills, and how i always get things done. The store manager said he wished the rx manager had asked him to do it together. He admitted that i deserve better. Our only tech was pissed up as hell to as he scored 1.7.
We decided to confront him in a meeting yesterday with the store manager.I asked him why he thinks i am a failure. He had no good answers. On pharmacy service sections, he gave me a 1. I told him that i promoted the flu shot more than him, and perhaps gave more flu shots than him. . to make story short, i confronted him and he had no rationale as he gave me the ratings he did. The store manger agreed that i deserved better, at least a 2.7

Has anyone been in simular situation? If so, how did you handle that?
I already sent an email to rx supervisor.

I have not seen mine but I am sure it will be full of ********
Do not ruin your weekend.Retail is an unfair land do not expect fairness.
Think about it once you are back at work.

Truth be told, nothing kills one's morale like something like this, especially if it is unfair undeserved. OP just needs to be big enough and just rise above it.

If the the RX manager is not forthcoming, confronting him will only make him more convinced that he graded you correctly.

well i have to defend myself, and tell the rx supervisor the evaluation does not reflect my performance. once they know the truth i will let it go.

I am sorry for your low rating. However, I learn a lesson in school is that it's relationship that is count, and not how smart I am. I learn to develop good relationship with people around me and they say good thing about me to others. To answer your case, even though you do exceptional performance (i have no doubt), but that does not translate into a high rating to your manager. I think it is not because he does not know how well you do, but maybe there is a lack of communication between you and him. Maybe he does not like you for some things.

Thank you for your understanding. I won't let that bother me too much. It bugs me when i know i should get a better rating than him. When working with the techs, he would take naps in the pharmacy. Could you believe it? taking naps in the pharmacy? he once was written up for taking naps a few years ago( i was not at that store at that time). That time , a tech called loss prevention for him.

As long as you are a competent pharmacist, you should get at least a 2.5. A below 2 rating is really bad. I got mostly 3s, i.e. meeting expectations. The issue is that these scores will have a role in future raises and bonuses.
You can get into big trouble if you fall asleep on the job. That is unacceptable. It is an issue for overnight pharmacist more than day/evening pharmacists. My store once had a semi-regular floater who would sit at the desk and take off his shoes. The supervisor or dm made a surprise visit, and let's say the result wasn't pretty.

What's wrong with taking off your shoes? Often after a couple of hours pass, most of us in the pharmacy would just take off the shoes and walk around with socks. Felt amazing.

Let me get this straight... your ****ing store level partner solely determines your performance eval????

He took off his shoes and socks and was resting his smelly feet on the desk. It is against OSHA regulations to have bare feet in the pharmacy.

Kroger started doing this. Thats half the reason I quit. They expect you to be a 45 hour a week manager and a 40 hour a week pharmacist. With a wife and kids I do not have 85 hours a week to spend in the pharmacy.

Kroger institiuted a draconian performace evaluation system this year. It is so complicated I didn't even bother trying to figure it out. I just quit and found another job. The Pharmacy Manager is now responsible for typing up a 5 page evaluation for each employee. Yes, each pharmacist and technician. This evaluation is to include SMART goals, evaluation of past performace and a number rating that is the sole determination on weather an employee gets a raise. We were told that Kroger will only give raises out to the top performers.

I was supposed to type all these up and have a meeting with each employee to discuss. Then I had to turn them in the the pharmacy supervisor who would go over them and if they did not agree you would have to do it again.

That was the last straw for me. They are out of the ****ing minds. I spend everyday trying desparatly to fil my share of 400 prescriptions and not kill someone because of the inadequte staffing. I do not have enough time to be a good pharmacist let alone manage the place. These idiots dumped so much crap on us that is was an impossible job,

Ancienbon or anyone who knows
What does 2.8/5 (evaluation) means in WAGS world ?I am just curious

curious on who comes up with the "number"

where i was the manager, the pharmacist and technician scores were all done from "above"

i had absolutely no say whatsoever

even when i tried to grade everyone at a "5" or "excellent", i would get an email back telling to what score to give and explaining why "no one could achieve a 5"

and yes, these "numbers" totally reflect your raise and (lack of) bonus

complete bull$#it

^ This.

I was in the corporate world for 15 years, and a manager in a very well-known tech company (a household name).

At my company, your performance rating was determined 12 months in advance. We managers would sit down in January and say "OK, in December we'll give Joe Blow an "outstanding" rating; we'll give Jane Doe an "acceptable" rating; and Dan SixPack will get an "unsatisfactory" rating." In this example, we were laying the groundwork for Dan to be laid off next year. And over the following 12 months, unless Joe or Jane achieved superhuman feats, their performance ratings would not change. As for Dan, he was a dead man walking. Nothing he does would change his fate.

I got so pissed off at the system that I dropped everything, quit the ratrace and went to live among the Tuareg nomads in the Sahara desert for two years (true story). It's funny how performance ratings seem so inconsequential when your immediate worry is trying to find a gallon of water to last through the day...

You will be featured in rph's book on pharmacy gardeners.

It is really good.
If you score a 2, that means you partially achieve expectations, and 3 means you achieve expectations. That is really good in my opinion. I scored 1.9

As i said, I emailed the rx supervisor about my low performance review, and she agreed to discuss it with me today.. She came yesterday to discuss it with the rx manager.
She discussed it line by line with all the competency with me. The store manager was also present. she was basically trying everything in the book to justify what the pharmacy manager gave me.... she was big on psc cards...She said the store has not been meeting the goals for a while( goal is 2 psc a day). I told her, i always try my best to psc reminding her instances where one day i sold 8 psc, and making my store the number one store in the district...For her, that was not enough, you got be consistent...For flu shot, we fell short of our goals by probably a couple of shots.
She even questions my customer service skills, how i help the customer, do go by the new ad( pharmacist go above and beyond) to help customers. She asked about doctor detailing, flu shot clinics, and everything in the book
Basically in her boo, a performance of 2.5 is not reachable....
Walgreens is just trying to push you to the limit.. I guess i just got to do what i got to do and turn the page .

Ancienbon do not think too much about it.Just do your best and do not worry/care
I know it hurts when you are not acknowledged for your hard work. We all know that retail is harsh and unfair

As others have said, it may have already been determined what your score was going to be. Many of my past jobs (and current), it was well known that the number of "outstandings" was severely limited (usually only 1 per department/store). I worked one hospital job, where the manager was told he could only rate 1 person "above average", everyone else had to be at average or below. It is possible that your pharmacy manager had been something similar?

On the other hand....psychological studies have shown that people tend to highly overrate actions that they do poorly. The theory is, because such an action is difficult for them, the mind unconscously assumes it is difficult for everyone, and then the person thinks they must be doing an outstanding job to be doing as well as they are with that action. Even if your review wasn't fair, you should still seriously consider the points brought up. Try to improve in the areas you are being asked to, and make sure your priorities match up with your employers priorities (with the exception if your employer is asking you to compromise patient safety, obviously don't follow their lead in that regard. Rather than worrying about why the manager gave you the scores he did, I would ask him to give you concrete reasons on how you can improve your scores. If flu shots are a priority, than ask him what actions he would like you to take to improve your selling of flu shots. And then do those actions.

I will improve to do my best to improve. I know i need some improvement, who does not? As far as flu shots, i did a better job than my partner (RXM).. I would like to see what score he is going to get.. without bragging about myself, i do think i should get a better score than he. Unfortunately the rx supervisor will never know his work habit , taking napping in the pharmacy, and making customer pay sometime and argue with them insurance wont pay the meds( this happens a few times) And telling patienst medicaid does not pay for med while the brand name would be covered( concerta, and dermasmoothe are 2 examples).by the way for flu shot, we did not meet our goals by about less than 10 shots... But how many stores in the district reached their goals? I guess may be a couple...
Any way, i am going to do my best to improve on everything...

I won't let that bother me too much. It bugs me when i know i should get a better rating than him.

You got it in one, he is threatened by you and doesn't want you to move ahead of him. He is deliberately trying to suppress you so that he looks good.

I'm disturbed by all this because I get my Rxs filled at a Walgreens and I can't tell how they would evaluate the staff with my Rxs. I went in got an Rx, maybe I would get counseling, and I was never asked about flu shots. The manager has been there about 3 plus years now. Did she simply forsake bonuses in lieu of not getting flu shots for customers?

How could I tell how well customer service by the pharmacist was when many times I don't even see the pharmacist? (me picking up refills in drive thru, etc.)

I'm a part-time tech at WAG, I got about that this time. I'm not my RXM's favorite tech in my store anymore (basically because I'm not there as much due to being in pharmacy school more than 200 miles away 😉 ). I don't really care, since this is pretty much my last summer working with them, then I'll be on leave for the year. When they promoted me to intern, they basically re-hired me. If I ever think of staying, I'd have to be paid a crap-load. Not that that's gonna happen anyway, since we're "saturated", right?
