I used to work at a pharmacy for maybe 4 months, but anyways i kind of quit the job on a bad note... I'm applying to pharmacy schools next year, but If i list this work experience as a reference in the application, would the school actually call up the pharmacy and ask about me? It's not that I had wanted to quit the job like that, but both the pharmacist and I knew i was about to quit soon, but even still I have a feeling he'd have some negative things to say about me if the school calls him. help me out guys, and yeah i guess i'm a ******* for quitting like that...

bump, i know you got things to do, but take 2 seconds to help me out thx

many things to consider here. when was this job? 5 years ago? the pharmacist may not work there anymore. many companies have rules that say they can only give out the dates worked and whether the employee is eligible to be rehired so in that case they wouldn't be able to say negative comments about you. plus, what do you mean you went out on a bad note? did you curse the boss out? did you give no notice? what seems like a big deal to you may have been forgotten with time. i still think you should list your pharmacy experience but don't ask the pharmacist for a letter of recommendation.

I think the school could call and ask your supervisor but that never happens to me and most of the people I know. I know it sounds a bit risky but is there anyway you could ask the school subtlely if they will call up and ask? In the worst case that they call and ask, you can always explain during the interview...

adcoms are so overloaded with work that they would only call a past employer if something looked really strange. Don't worry about it and feel free to list your experience.

I started working at a second pharmacy about the time my applications were being turned in. At the time I didn't feel the pharmacist knew me well enough to write a letter for my applications so I listed it as experience on my resume and application. About a month later he said he was called from two different schools asking about me. I guess it depends on the school whether or not they call. Good luck. Any experience is better than none

Wow no one has gotten back to me saying they received a phone call. I still think OP's experience needs to be listed, otherwise it could be considered holding back or lying about it if it is omitted.

wow thx for all the helpful replies. About me leaving on a bad note, I overslept and couldn't work on the day i was supposed to, and I ended up quitting over the phone. Also i might have been a bit lazy on the job. But it seems to me that it will be okay to list it as a reference. I was debating whether i should list it or not, but i don't think the adcom will make that call..

The only thing I would add is that companies discourage making a reference because in the event a bad reference was made, an overly litigious individual would discover the matter and file suit. Then again, you could have my former professor who just does not care and makes nasty comments anyway.
