Hey Guys...i was just working on my application but i was wondering...for the commitee letter it says to state if there were any particularly "weak" semesters and if there were, it would be best to be put into the commitee composite letter....unfortunately...i had one of those bad semesters so how would you advise to state that and should i even mention it?

thanks if you can help

depends on the reason. they also want to see if you can handle the normal stresses that life throws at us such as breakups with boyfriends, perhaps money issues, taking hard course load (ie. taking orgo and bio together along with some high level math course, or even with an art course, for some of us 😉). If there is a serious reason like a death in the family or a really chaotic divorce between your parents or something else out of your control, I'd say mention it but also try to show how you overcome this. Its a good opportunity to explain some hole or not so pretty semester grades, but you also don't want to leave a sour taste regarding your grades either. this is a chance to offer explanations, not excuses.

It's good to acknowledge what happened but don't get bogged down in the event. You should focus on what positive things you learned/developed by going through whatever caused this downturn in your academic performance. For example, did you have learn to be more organized with your time; or how to separate personal from academic/professional life; or how to perservere through an illness, etc.
