So the results are in and I failed in the operative section of the test.

This might sound lame but I need all the help I can get.

I'm sure a fair amount of people have heard about the incident that happened at USC school of dentistry on Saturday June 13 , well if nobody doesn't know about this , at approximately 8 40 am the school compressor broke-down , the whole school had to stop working and the exam was to be delayed for 4 hours and 30 minutes

Meaning that the first day some of us instead of going back home at 4 : 30 pm ended up going back home around 9: 30 pm .

Now exactly when the compressor broke-down i was already working on my operative patient ( composite ) so obviously I could not work anymore on her because of the lack of pressure . So I reschedule her composite for next day since she couldn't make it in the afternoon . I begged please for her to stay but she said she couldn't do it .

Later on at 12 : 30 pm the exam started again and I went on with my already scheduled amalgam, everything went fine there , but my other back ups were not willing to stay till 9 : 30 pm and I coulnd't find another patient that wanted to be treated .

Next day I had endo in the morning woke up around 6 am and got to school at 7 am , then Perio in the afternoon i finished quickly so i could treat my composite patient , I started with her preparation only with the first part of it I did a temporary filling and dismissed her for next day. Since I couldn't finish my composite I told her she had to come next day ( monday ) , I had to pay her day of work and some extra cash in order for her to come on monday.

On monday I started on her composite and the prep took forever , I got nervous , the patient was cranky that she had been there 3 times already and couldn't get done a composite , I finished just in time but I did a not so good restoration.

I got my results everything went fine and aparently my restoration had a really low score.

I think everything added up ,the stress , the surprise factor , my patient being cranky I could understand her she had being there for 3 days , I'm sure other students have their stories to tell as well . But I want to know what you guys think abou this ? What should I do , should I file a complaint to wreb for this.

My operative score was 2.96 I want to kill myself. 🙁

I don't think you have much of a case.

The WREB was stressful for everyone that has ever taken it. They gave you the extra time on the first day to work until 9 pm. I know on the last day you have 3 full hours of clinic time to work. That is enough time to do a resin. It's unfortunate that your nerves got the better of you and that your patient was not being very cooperative. It just sounds like you had bad luck with pts who didn't want to stay the extra time. The WREB is not responsible for uncooperative pts. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, that's just the way I see it based on what you have said.

I know how you feel. I failed endo the first time by .012 pt. But I just sucked it up and retook it in June and ended up passing. Now that you have been through it once and know what to expect, the second time around shouldn't be as scary.

Keep your head high. Register for the next one ASAP. Start finding the ideal patients. Be very picky so you just have to do ideal preps with little to no Mods. Try to find a pt with 2 lesions. Take out a loan if you feel that you have to accomodate the pts time/travel/food/hotel/etc. I paid for everything with my pts. I think I ended up paying over $2000.00 in the end for pt hotel/food/etc for my 3 patients.

Good luck. You have the skills to do it. You just have to control your nerves and get cooperative pts.

You're not alone. I was there at USC taking WREBS, and Operative was the only section that was questionable for me (I also ended up getting a 2.96). There was a pink sheet involved and found that I did not detect a "gross open margin" on my composite finish. I was infuriated! I didn't detect this margin with the rubber dam on. But a piece might have chipped off when the patient was submitted. My patient was also getting irritated during treatment and was complaining about the wedge.

There's a reason for us going through this adversity, and we'll get a lot stronger from it. I am speaking to the WREB coordinator about the likely hood that there is a grading error. But no matter what happens, we'll get there, be it in UNLV or whenever the next time is. Best Wishes.

Yeah i was there too and my patient was bitching all the time because we stayed there till 9:30 pm come on people this of course has to affect your performance in the test. I was exhausted so were the floor and grading examiners, I wonder if that delay affected their judgement when they had to grade.

I failed operative on the last procedure as well . i

I took WREB in june and lost in the operative section. I got 2.90,they took lot of points in the amalgam, I requested for the modfications they were granted and finished everything. As far as I know everything went well , didn't get any instructions. I want to apply for appeal, to apply for appeal do they consider each section separately or the total operative score.
Please help me.
