So I am a reapplicant and for my gap year have the chance to go to a post bacc in jersey, or to a 2 year program in NY. I had originally wanted a 1 year program in NY but did not get that. I however prefer NY to jersey. How would it look to adcoms if I bail out of graduate school after a year for medical school if i get accepted, is that frowned upon? Or has it happened often in the past? Should I just go to the 1 year program? what do you think?

TBH i have no idea how it'll look but if you're going to enter a program with the intention of dropping out there's a problem somewhere along the line. either stick with it for 2 years or go to the one year program... and give someone else a chance to get what they actually want to do!

"bailing" out on anything will hurt you with adcoms. Also, usually if you say that you're enrolled in a degree granting program, they expect you to get the degree before you matriculate. And if you decide not to tell them, then you'll have to come up with something else when they ask you what you've been doing with your year.

most if not all MD schools will frown upon the fact that you will not be finishing what you started and you will most likely be putting yourself at a big disadvantage.

what kind of grad program is this anyway? it sounds like you're doing this just to kill time. if that's the case you're better off finding a job or doing something useful with your time.

All of the programs that I applied to, while in my MS program, required us to finish the graduate degree prior to matriculation (some required signed letters from our department chair).

kk thanks
I chose the 1 year program in jersey.

I think he's talking about SMPs. Schools have mixed feelings about dropping out of SMPs, but I think the 1 year program is a better choice in any case. I believe he's talking about the NYMC traditional track SMP and UMDNJ's SMP. Some schools (Tulane seems like one of them) are ok with people leaving SMPs after being accepted.
