hey everyone. i did a search to try to find information about baptist in memphis but it did not help much. does anyone know anything about their program? the website isn't the most helpful. i have heard (so i'm not sure how accurate it is) that their residents can moonlight a ton and get lots of experience that way, but i have not been able to confirm this. if anyone has any information at all on this program, i would appreciate it since i am interviewing there in jan. thanks & best of luck to everyone.

From a close friend of mine who is a medical student in Memphis (and worked in the main hospital where baptist is affiliated) : the program is suspect. He ended up not applying. I'll try to dig some details.

thanks for the reply. i was afraid that it might be a sketchy program. just for clarity's sake, this is not the same program as ut in memphis we are talking about, right? i would appreciate any additional info you can find. thanks again.

Right, they're different programs.

I'm pretty sure he said that he heard from a resident that you are left to your own to learn to read. UT-Methodist program gets the good stuff, he said, and they were left with the bread and butter stuff.

And then theres the whole living in memphis thing... Better pack a 9 in your white coat. 'Its hard out there fo a pimp.'

Better yet, don't wear your white coat. Several med student cars have been broken into b/c their white coats were hanging in the window (in the middle of the day). Not the best of locations.

A good buddy of mine is at Memphis Baptist. He seems to like it.

From what I've gleaned, the program benefits from being run by, essentially, a private practive group. They, as a group, are not as lazy as most academic radiologists. I can't really speak to their didactics.

Also, the residents are paid to take weekend call. I don't think it's uncommon for a resident to double their salary just from taking call at their own program. With outside moonlighting, I think it gets even better.

search MSIT or Mid-South Imaging & Theraputics. This is the private group that runs the program.
