the way my schedule works out to be, i plan on taking the MCAT august 2005... by then i'll have the following coarses finished:

chem 1
chem 2
anatomy/physiology 1
anatomy/physiology 2
physics 1
physics 2
biology 1

i plan on taking organic chem 1 the fall of 2005 and organic chem 2 in spring 2006 (all after MCAT, before matriculation).. everyone says that there isnt much organic on the MCAT, so i can get by just by studying the little bit of organic w/o taking a class for it... also, i was thinking of taking bio 2 that fall after the MCAT too, but i have the opportunity to take it in the summer leading up to the MCAT (i'm already going to take physics 1 & 2 that summer).. but i dont want to overload myself with more than just physics 1/2 that summer because i plan on taking princeton review that summer leading up to the MCAT..

with just those classes, will i be good to go in terms of doing well on the mcat (also, taking princeton review leading up to the exam)?

Um, you do realize that there's an entire forum dedicated to MCAT questions, don't you....Sorry for the snarkiness (it's late) - check out the MCAT forum for this kinda stuff.

You'll have the physical sciences section down.

The biological sciences section is like this:

1/2: Biology: vast majority = Genetics & Human Physiology

1/2: Organic Chemistry

The fact that you haven't taken Genetics OR Organic Chemistry will really hinder you on this area. I would recommend some hardcore studying of these areas with study guides, or delaying the MCAT.

I would replace A&P II or Physics II with Organic Chem I. That way you will have a fighting chance. There is much more of the later class on the MCAT than the former 2 classes.

yea, theres a whole forum for this. Personally I try not to think about the MCATs. It makes me sad 🙁

But just for your own knowledge, when the AAWHATEVER says that all you need is those basic classes, THEY ARE LYING!!! There is optics, and nuclear chemistry, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and ive even seen comp vert in small doses. Yes, you do need those basics, but the more you know the better. I reccomend a commercial course. It will fill in the gaps.

you will be ok with the biology stuff b/c of your physiology but you really need second semester organic for the mcat. get the kaplan books and know the orgo cold.

O-chem has been de-emphasized so that it is about 35% of the Bio Sciences section. But still that's substantial. Studying a little o-chem without taking the course would be a tough road to hoe. You would have to study a pretty good amount if you want to do well.

You are really going to NEED an organic class before you take the MCAT. There's not a lot of it on the test, but there's enough that you need at least the first half of it. You also need more biology, especially genetics. The biological sciences section of the MCAT was recently restructured a bit, when they took out some organic questions and replaced with genetics and molecular questions.

The A&P will help in the BS but, without O-Chem and one Bio you will still be at a great disadvantage. I took the MCAT just short the second Bio but I had both OChems out of the way and A&P. I would think it would be really hard for you unless you are some type of supper brain. Take it in Apr when you get a few more of the heavy hitters under your belt. It is one bitch of a test and the last thing you want is to waste one chance on something you could have prevented, being severly disabled in BS. By all means don't take OChem with Phy in the summer that is just setting you up for failure. It sucks but there is no quick way to get all the stuff done, i would just wait.

They replaced a lot of the Orgo with Genetics now. My form was very Genetics heavy and barely had any Orgo at all. I would say bare essentials from what you are missing are Orgo 1 (2 is not necessary for the MCAT and if you can learn nomenclature and the basic e1 e2 sn1 sn2 etc. reactions you do not even really need to take orgo1) and Genetics.
Good Luck

Just score a 14 on the Verbal section and two nines in the sciences and you will be fine. I was.
