Alrighty fellow SDN'ers. Could someone bust out their Barron's book and look at problem 80 on pg 316 and tell me if the answer in the back of the book is correct. It says the answer is D, but I think its A. Wouldn't the longer alkyl chain cause a greater inductive effect, stablizing the positive charge on the conjugate acid, therfore making it a stronger base?

its wrong. Alkyl groups are electron donating toward cations and Ch3ch2 is more electron donating than ch3.

the actual values 😛kb of ch3ch2nh2=4.4*10^-4
kb of ch3nh2=4.3*10^-4

Great, so I am right. The answer is A. Thanks croco.

PS
This Barrons book seems to be full of mistakes. If anyone has already gone through and marked all the problems that have mistakes, could they post them here so I will know?

Way too many problems man. I just cant do it🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁. If there is certain problems just ask us and we'll answer them

Just reitterating what a lot of SDNers have said..... only use the Barrons book for the PAT section...and maybe math, otherwise stay away. The book is full of errors, even in the informational sections.

and the reading sections are really REALLY hard. i found that my reading section on the actual test was substantially easier than the barrons book tests
