Hello all,

I've recently been accepted to Barry University's 1 year program.
If there are any recent graduates and/or students on here that can shed some light on the program that would be great. The good, the bad, the ugly?

I've seen conflicting views on sdn about this program. Any one have any success stories of themselves or their classmates matriculating into medical school? FAU? FIU? NOVA? NOVA MBS?

For the price of this school, I want to make sure the money is well worth my time and effort.

Thanks in advance!

I recently graduated from Barry's BMS program. It's a great program IF you do well.

Also, most students are accepted into the 1 year program but it ends up taking them a year and a half to complete the required classes.

Thanks for the insight. Did any of your classmates matriculate into medical school?

The matriculation rate is actually very high...some matriculate before they finish the BMS program.

I worked very hard and did well in this program. BUT...please know that this program is not easy.

I think that one of two things happen: 1. you do well enough to get an acceptance at a medical/dental school or 2. you don't do well and you change your career path.

Also, some dental school professors have told me that the classes at Barry are actually more difficult than the same classes in dental school.

Hi! I'm graduating from Barry's BMS(M.S.) in May and matriculating to NSUCOM this fall. I began the program in spring 2013. Success in the program can help to demonstrate your capabilities in the upper-level biological and medical sciences (i.e. Biochem 1&2 sequence, gross- & neuro-anatomy, histology,pharmacology...et cetera). If you are disciplined, motivated, and really want to work to improve your application and get a medical school acceptance, you can in this program. Make sure to allocate time for shadowing and volunteering so that you are a well rounded candidate. Also, I completed the MCAT before starting the program and recommend taking care of that "Beast" prior to starting the program if at all possible. I believe the program has conditioned me well for medical school. I am not aware of any official linkage to medical or dental school, but my classmates and I received interviews and acceptances to programs all over. The program is not cheap. Whether the program is worth your effort and time depends on many things. If you can show success in this program, other areas of your application (i.e. MCAT, EC, personal statement...etc), and apply to medical schools intelligently, it can pay off. Good luck! If you have any questions, let me know!

I've recently been accepted into this program as well on the dental track for 2 years.... I'm very excited about this school 🙂

@Ronielle, when did you apply? I'm still waiting to hear back... it's been 3 weeks since my application has been completed.

I actually applied in December but trust me ,it shouldnt take long to hear back i actually got a email like 2weeks ago and they sent my official letter a couple of days ago... i will be paying the 500$ towards my tuition.

Is it possible to complete the 18 month program in 1 year?

Just got accepted into the 1-year dental track... Received the email today that said to wait for the official letter in the mail within 3 weeks. I completed my app april 1st...

I'm not sure but, I'm sure they would let you switch over if you come out with great A's after your 1st semester ...only if you compare the curriculms and see what classes are being taken for each route... whether its a 1yr or 2yr..... i would call and ask to be on the safe side. 🙂

It is possible, but be prepared to work hard. A lot of people switch from the 1 year to the 18 month after their first semester.

I'm excited to be starting the MBS program this Fall, but I'm still looking for a place to stay. Any recommendations on housing or others looking for a roommate? Would be interested in finding someone from the program to house with.

for those of you who have already sent in their deposits, have you guys had any emails about orientation yet?

Not yet Letmein. From the 2013 -2014 calendar school started on 08/26 and orientation was the week prior. I'm guessing it will be similar this year.

Hey guys,

Just got accepted in the dental curriculum for this fall. I'm kinda freaking out about living arrangements and would like to room with people in the program. Are any of interested? Im thinking of starting a FB group to make this process a little easier, but don't have any way of knowing who's going.

Hey guys! Just got accepted into this program and I'm so excited about it! Good luck to all who got accepted and I'll be seeing you in the Fall. Does anyone know what the class schedule is typically like?

I got accepted last week! yay! I would also like to know what the typical schedule is like, if anyone can shed some light on that 🙂

Classes are typically during the day. General Dentistry was in the evenings but it was only once a week. Biochemistry is always on Fridays.

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you are applying to dental school this cycle, and are also attending Barry in the fall? What are you guys putting for your "courses planned" section for Barry? I know we do not pick classes until later so I am not sure what to put for my first semester classes.

Thanks!

Does anyone have the scoop on housing around the area? Anything reasonably priced that would be even more reasonable if it was split?

I recently found out I was accepted for Fall 2014 for the 18 month track. Congratulations to all who have been accepted!!!! Is anyone still looking for a roommate or know of any available housing near the Hollywod campus? I am a female and would prefer a female roommate.

I am going to be attending for the Fall 2014 1 year track. I was also looking for places to live/needing a roommate too. I would prefer to live near the campus because I won't have a car. And I'm a male looking for a male roommate.

For those attending the program for Fall 2014 do you have recommendations as where to live? I was looking at Aventura but will that be too far with traffic? Where do most students end up living and where do most of the students study at? I also heard many end up living right next to campus such as the Radius, Regent, or Hollywood Station. What about hollywood beach?

Hey guys, if anyone is looking for a place for next semester (Spring 2015), I have a 2/2 available conveniently located 5 min walking-distance from campus and am looking for a roommate. I'm a guy btw...so if you're interested or have any questions, shoot me a message!

I know my message won't go very far, but THIS IS NOT AN SMP. STOP CALLING IT AN SMP. This is a gross misrepresentation of this program that even the recruiters for the program will try to have you believe. this is just a pseudo post bacc, no strings attached. And you get a Master's, fwiw (nothing)
