Barry's BMS useless?

I got accepted to Barry's BMS (option 1).. i sent in my deposit already to Barry and am still waiting to hear back from Boston's MAMS..

but a lot of people on this forum said that Barry's program is a complete waste of money and that their success rate is bogus and skewed.. and that most graduates still end up in Caribbean anyway.. now i am doubting the school and the program and wonder if i should go if i don't get into Boston this round and just apply to BU's MAMS again later on... and if i do get accepted to BU's january term and just transfer out of Barry... any suggestions?

any past Barry BMS students wanna speak up and shed some light?

well off the bat, i was referred to that program by a friends sister, who finished it and is now in a US allopathic school, so its not impossible. But from what i hear, at least on the sentiments on the board, Barry doesnt remotely compete with any of the other SMPs out there (Georgetown, BUMAMS, University of Cincinnati, etc.)

I heard the Barry program gives you a good shot at getting into Nova Southeastern University's DO school. I interviewed there last year and one of the other guys being interviewed did the Barry program.

Description: This program is offered for those who have already fulfilled the undergraduate premedical requirements and seek to improve their credentials and options in the health professions. Students may use the MBS:


1. To initiate a career in the basic medical sciences, as a generalist, or ultimately as a specialist or teaching in a science field.

2. To supplement a non-science undergraduate record with adequate science preparation for admission to any health profession

3. To improve student's crendentials by demonstrating that they can excel in the sciences

Eligibility: Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with 8 semester hours each in biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics all with labs. Selection will be based primarily on academic qualifications (2.5 cumulative GPA and 2.0 science GPA); MCAT, OAT, PCAT, DAT, AHPAT or GRE scores; as well as an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, achievements and commitment.

Duration: The M.B.S takes at least two years to complete.

Finances: The full-time tuition rate in 2002-03 is $22,485 per year. There is a $50 application fee.
