Does any one have any experiences or info about going to Baruch for your pre-med studies?
I know they are mostly a business oriented school, but it seems they do have a pre-med department of sorts.
Do they have any reputation among med schools or anything like that? Do their committee letters have any value?
I know other CUNY schools are probably better (Hunter, CityCollege, etc) in terms of pre-med stuff, but I was just curious to see what the view/opinion of/about Baruch is.
Thanks

Hmm, a few of my friends took Physics over the summer at Baruch and said it was "mad easy." Not much but you now have one more factoid.

i heard the same actually, my friend took physics this summer in baruch and said it was a joke.

and yes, any cuny 4 year school is good for pre-med.

Baruch's science is not highly respected but all CUNY sciences are decent. If you are going for a bachelors in a business field then it is a great environment for it but if not, then it is still somewhat good.

well, i already have my BA so this would be post-bacc for me; i just figure i would ask this in the general pre-allo forum since someone might be going there now or went there before

Uh...go to Hunter or CCNY. Preferably the latter, but the former will do just as well. I think Brooklyn is good too.

Any CUNY four year college is fine for your undergrad or your post-bacc so long as you stick to that CUNY for your clasees and don't hop around to every one of them seeking easier courses. Since your a post-bac really any one is fine. If you were an undergrad looking for something particular like research, business or fine arts then I would check out which school is stronger in that area. They each have their own different strengths.

This thread is old but I want to add a warning to any student thinking about attending Baruch for pre med or a post bac.

They are a business school and offer the pre req science courses once a year. IE Physics 1 is in the Fall only, Physics 2 in Spring only. If you dont get into these classes when they are offered you are SOL and will have to jump through hoops to take classes at Hunter, Queens college etc...

In general hunter or ccny have better premed programs than most other cunys, though hunter has more of a biology focus, while ccny is geared toward engineering and physics

This is a super late response, however, I just wanted to share my experience with anyone who is considering Baruch right now for pre-med studies. I am a student at Baruch College and I am on the pre-med track. From my experience, science courses at Baruch seem easier compared to other CUNYs because the professors do a great job of teaching the subject. The classes consist of approximately 30 students (or less) and so professors really do get to know you. It's important to note that there are different professors that teach at different times, and scheduling is a pain since there are few science classes. However, if someone wants to pursue something other than a science major (like business) and be on the pre-med track, Baruch is definitely an option worth considering.

I went to York college (CUNY).. The good thing about CUNY's is that you can choose whichever one you want for whatever classes. (Lookup e-permit, if that still exists) It doesn't matter where you take the class, only the grade, and of course what you (the student) gets out of it. I HIGHLY recommend taking Orgo in York. PM me if you want more info.
