i came across standardization in a passage and i dont really understand what it is or why its done. can anyone explain?

A lot of bases become weaker over time, so it's impossible to tell what strength they are without standardizing, which is just titration with a primary standard (doesn't change concentration over time) acid.

So the purpose of the titration is to determine the effective molarity of the base

Yep! And it's not base specific. Standarizations are used for a plethora of things
