I am in the midst of choosing a career and would like to make sure I am not forgetting about fields like this to which we do not get a lot of exposure third year.

What does rad onc do? Typical day? Hours and lifestyle? Clinical vs research? Academic vs private practice? Are their fellowships, eg, peds rad onc? Or does every rad onc treat kids and adults?

Any info would be appreciated.

p.s. I already know it is very competitive.

Thanks, that answered a lot of questions.

My question that remains is regarding pediatric rad onc. Is there such a thing? Obviously kids get cancer way less frequently, so I am assuming that rad onc treats all people (adults and kids) and there would be no separate fellowship in rad onc.

there is pedonc. usually its limited to major academic centers, but not exclusively. ONe can do a fellowship in peds radonc if you haven't had enough experience in residency; i believe you must do 12 cases in residency in peds but i may be remembering that wrong. usually a specialist in peds radonc treates kids.
