Ok, this is a general question.. But you always hear that doctors work crazy ass hours, why is this?! I always thought that the doctors were like the "boss." Thanks for all the sarcastic and outstandingly appropriate comments to come! :soexcited:

I guess thats exactly why....because they are the boss...I think that all the night shifts is what really makes them stand out from all the other professions...but they do work crazy hours in the US...80 hours per week or so? 😱

Moving to hSDN.

Everybody has a boss. Whether it's a literal one if you're working at a hospital or academic center, or a figurative one (ie you're in private practice and will be reimbursed based on the number of patients you see, and by extension, the number of hours you work), there will be something regulating the amount of time you work. A very small subset of competitive specialties have good reimbursement with generally shorter hours. Most of the people who are happy in medicine will tell you the hours are worth it, and most of the ones who are unhappy will tell you they aren't

People don't stop getting sick.

People don't stop getting sick.

Well, they don't stop being sick at regular working hours at least. Some of them do stop being sick eventually, give us some credit...

Some do, some don't. Depends on place and specialty.

And every year, there's more and more of a gradual shift in thinking. Most people don't want to be doctors to the point of exclusion of everything else in their lives.
