Can you guys provide me any info, as far as how hard is it, what books you used (same as for step 1?) I have heard from some friends at baylor that it is not representative of step 1 at all and is actually much harder. Half of their class failed and had to re-take it--how ridiculous. So if someone can provide me with some more info on the exam and studying tips--and how to go about this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Our school makes us take the exam although it doesn't count for anything...just to use as a guide for Step 1 studying. It difficulty was variable...some questions easy, others I had no idea. I took so long before Step 1 that I couldn't say how accurately it was representative of Step 1 but I don't think it was that much different. Without studying for it (since it was used only as an assessment), I would guess that most (if not all) of my class 'passed' (that is to say scored such that their approximate Step 1 score would have been passing). Many did well above pass and above average.

I would suggest you study for it as you would sudy for Step 1 by using First Aid as your primary source of study material.

The Basic Science Shelf is good practice for the Step 1. It's probably a little easier than the real thing, especially when you consider that you can look at any of the 175 questions any time you want to (i.e. no 50-question blocks), but again it really depends on what kinds of questions you get and what your strengths and weaknesses are.
