Only a second year here, but with people just now matching, I was wondering if anyone had insight into Baylor's Medicine program? I've heard a range of things from "great place to go if u want to place in solid fellowships" to "go somewhere else cause it's a really malignant program"

Any info anyone picked up on the interview trail? Or if anyone matched there, could you elaborate on what made that program stand out above the others?

not trying to hijack your thread, but since youre talking about baylor, does anyone also have feedback about UT houston.....thanks!

I think it's a statement based on rivalry.

So by "malignant" i think people mean that the resident's work their butts off (which is true for any residency), but even moreso for first year IMresidents at baylor

Could anyone give a simple explanation on what's happening w/ Baylor and their hospitals? I've heard plenty of rumors circulating around here, but would just love a simple, straightforward explanation.

Baylor was affiliated with Methodist Hospital, but they broke up. Baylor decided to build their own hospital, which should be up and running in 2 or 3 years. Naturally, there is a lot of politics that go into building a new hospital from scratch.

Baylor College of Medicine has produced about half of all IM doctors in Texas over the last 50+ years - main teaching affiliations are with St. Luke's Hospital (top 50 hospital ranking), Ben Taub General Hospital (Public), and DeBakey VA Hospital.

Baylor's 2008 match: 50 of 171 MS4's matched at Baylor; and 73 of those 171 matched in primary care residencies.

Baylor Hospital and Clinic opens in 2011 on 35 acres in the Texas Medical Center at the corner of Old Spanish Trail and Cambridge Street - cost: $1billion+.

Methodist is now affiliated with Cornell/Weil.
