There are many mixed opinions on the quality of the Texas neuro programs. The chair at my school (I'm a student at a Texas medical school) advised me to not waste my time, money or energy applying to any of the programs in Texas. He simply felt that none of them were up to par. That being said, I did apply to a couple (all my family is here in Texas) and ended up ranking them both dead last after interviewing there.

Other students have had different experiences. I met several people on the interview trail who's PDs had advised them to apply to places like Southwestern or Baylor. Like I said, there are mixed opinions.
