On the Baylor secondary, is anyone who does not have a hardship writing an essay into the "special experiences" section?

The instructions are "Indicate any special experiences, unusual factors or other information which you feel would be helpful in evaluating you."

I get the feeling that they are looking for hardships but the "other information" part is causing a debate in my brain.

Any thoughts?

did you get an email from baylor stating where the secondary was? or are we just supposed to get it?

The Secondary is available online at the Baylor COM website.

Hey man, I used the "other information" part as a wide open prompt and wrote about music and was interviewed and accepted. So, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about trying to justify what you want to write. As long as it's relevent and interesting, I think it will be fine. I would try not to duplicate something in your AMCAS, but I think that's obvious.

it requires 3 recommenders, if I have a premedical committee what am i supposed to do?

Premed committee will take care of the recommendations. Read the fine print.

I wondered about this too. I put "rec committee" for the first one, but I don't know what to put for 2 and 3. As far as my essay, I used the optional essay from TMDSAS, which was the same question. It was too long, so I had to shorten it.

A girl always puts it much nicer

What slickb12 probably means is that if you click on 'help' when you're viewing the page that you guys are talking about, they give more specific instructions. I think we can just list our health committee.

Just a tip - fill out the optional essay. It is not really optional if you want to get an interview (at least that is what they told us on interview day).

that was my next question.. if it was possible to get an interview without the essay. thanks.

Didn't mean to sound rude a'tall. Was in a rush before dinner. Baylor's a great school and I wish all of you the best. If you have any other question about the process, feel free to ask.

So you're saying that they told you that the "optional" essay in TMDSAS is not optional? I left it blank b/c I thought I didn't really have anything to put in there. Which school told you that you needed to fill it out?

Baylor's application isn't part of TMDSAS. The TMDSAS essay is "optional" while the essay on the Baylor secondary isn't.

I did not put down anything in the optional essay and matched at UTSouthwestern.

At a presentation at the UTMB MSFP program, the director of the TMDSAS stated that most schools prefer that you leave the optional essay unanswered unless you have a very special circumstance. He stated that some schools have even pushed to have it removed. The director of the UTMB admissions committee also stated that it is not looked at unless it is explaining a personal illness or string of bad grades.

I thought the optional essay was there b/c UTH, UTMB, and UTSA don't have secondaries, which are generally the opportunities to explain unique info. So if you have something else you want to say that you haven't had a chance to say anywhere else, the op essay is your chance.

I also used it as a blank prompt and discussed how I'd lived all over the States + multicultural upbringing -> lots of great, fun experiences & ability to enjoy all kinds of people. Just a happy little spiel about my wanderer's life (I'm also nontrad) & Heinz 57 background. So, I second 'relevant & interesting.'

Good luck!

I was wondering how many words of the available 2000 you all were using, I can completely say what I want with 650 words. Is this too short! Would you all advise to use more of the space provided.

Of course I don't know, but I would say that there is no reason to weigh down your thoughts with unnecessary wording. If you've said something interesting and informative in 650 words, I say that's good enough.

its 2000 characters

Bump damnit! IT took me forever to find this thread. I am trying to fill out the baylor secondary right now. MAN!

what are you bumping for? i'm not sure what the question is.

baylor's essay is 2000 characters. copy into word and do a word count. it's not that hard. 1950 chars for me was about 375 words.
