I'll be starting this summer at Baylor...

I was wondering about the opinions of Baylor students and any other medical students who want to contribute...the portability of a laptop would be great, but economics point to desktops as being the better choice. What are the real advantages to having a laptop at Baylor? Disadvantages? Also, have any of you heard of any incidences of laptops stolen from students there?

Thanks for any input you can give!

Serenity07,

I'm a 3rd year at Baylor. Just thought I would share my experience. I bought a laptop after college thinking I would use it for med school. Since that time, I haven't disconnected it from my desk once. Also, I've rarely, if ever, seen anyone else bring a laptop to school. When you are at school, there are plenty of computers to use so I don't really see why you would need one unless you just have to type your notes in class. After basic sciences, there is absolutely no reason to have a laptop either.

You would be better off buying a computer with lots of memory and getting a fast internet connection so you can easily watch videos of class at home.

Later,
john

I agree w/ the above... you'll be better off getting a nice desktop. Students are rarely seen w/ a laptop. Get yourself a cable modem or DSL connect and realplayer 🙂 I also suggest purchasing "enounce"... it should make things more productive for you.

wow! what a helpful thread! I've been contemplating this exact same thing recently. Keep additional advice coming 🙂
